5 Tips for Defeating the #SundayScaries

OK, so you’ve got a case of the #SundayScaries… You’re dreading the weekend ending, your endless to-do list for the upcoming week, and you can’t even imagine getting up to the sound of an early alarm clock tomorrow morning. Sound familiar? Girl, don’t worry. You’re not alone, and I’ve got some easy and implementable tips for ya!

1. Get in Your Feels

Acknowledge or recognize how you feel/what you’re thinking. It’s OK to be worried about the upcoming week, events, things to do, etc. Ignoring how you feel will not solve a dang thing, so allow yourself to feel how you feel. It’s OK. I can’t say it enough. If you’re the kind of girl who likes to journal, write it down. Don’t filter yourself, just start writing any and everything that comes to mind… worries, stresses, anxieties, exciting things coming up, ramble your little heart, out sis. Sometimes freeing up your mind and heart means getting it down on paper and out of your head.

2. Extreme To-Do List

Whether or not you’re a journaling kinda gal, I’d definitely try implementing this step. It’s basically a shorthand version of #1 but a bit more focused on what you need to get done. Make a list of all of the things you know you’ve got to get done in the upcoming week… Anything and everything that might feel important. Don’t worry about priorities yet, just jot it down… Laundry? Clean your bathroom? Big meeting to prep for? Grocery run? Meal prep? Dinner with girlfriends on Thursday? Emails to send? Whatever it is, write it down. Don’t worry about the order or prioritizing, that’s coming next!

3. Identify Priorities

Now that you’ve got a good handle on errrrythang you’ve got to get done, start sifting through your to-do list and circle the most important items. What absolutely must get done immediately? What can wait until tomorrow or later in the week? Is there anything on your list that by doing now would make the rest of your life easier? Even though you might not want to go to the grocery store, would going and prepping your lunch for the next few days take a bit of stress off of you? If so, do it!

4. Take 1 Step

Now that you’ve identified priorities before Monday morning and for your week, make a move and get something done. The goal is not to check off every single item on your to-do list, but instead to take one actionable step towards completing something on your list. You’ll be surprised how much better you’ll feel once you start actively taking steps instead of sitting in your anxiety.

5. Create a Sustainable Rest Routine

This is much easier said than done, trust me, I know it. But it is so, so important. We are humans, not robots, and we NEED to rest. The God of the universe took time to rest, a powerful, big, mighty God who does not NEED anything, took time to rest when He created the universe. That alone is indicative to me that you and I need to rest, too. Maybe some weeks that means you need to take the whole day off social media or away from technology. Maybe it means you carve out an hour of time by yourself to take a walk, get outside, or read a book. Maybe it means taking a leisurely brunch date with a friend to catch up. Organizing and cleaning is surprisingly restful for me. It gives me a great sense of calm to have our home decluttered, organized, and things put away before we jump into another busy week. A simple routine of rest for me means making sure the laundry is all put away, the floors are clean, and our house is not littered with my daughter’s toys. Whatever that routine looks like for you, make it something simple but challenging enough that you can implement weekly. I promise when you take time for yourself to rest and reset you will start off your week refreshed and renewed.
